In our modern lives we have become so disconnected to nature and the natural grounding provided by mother earth. With so much chronic disease and stress related illness prevalent in our society, research is now showing that grounding can help reduce or even reverse the effects. And not the 'grounding' that you got when you were naughty as a child!
When was the last time you let your bare feet touch the earth? When your bare feet or skin come in contact with the earth, electrons are drawn up into the body, which help neutralise damaging excess free radicals that can lead to inflammation or disease. The soil, sand and water are all excellent conductors of electrons and our bodies are made up of mostly water, making us excellent conductors of electrons from the earth as long as there is a conductive channel for them to flow through, like bare skin.
Another way to look at it is that the earth has a slight negative charge and as we go about out daily lives we build up a positive charge. By connecting to the earth the positive charge is evened out, earthing us and returning us to a neutral and balanced state.
Have you ever noticed how refreshed or calm you feel when being out in nature, walking barefoot in the sand or swimming in the ocean?
Yoga, meditation and exercise can all assist us to feel more grounded and also have great health benefits, however there is nothing more grounding than connecting to the earth. The best thing is it’s quick, easy and free!
Earthing or grounding has been shown to have some incredible health benefits, such as:

Decreased hormonal and menstrual symptoms

Just 30 minutes of walking barefoot on the sand, soil or grass, swimming in the ocean, lying on the ground or resting against a tree can produce lasting benefits. Even simply sitting in a chair outside with your bare feet touching the grass will work.
